Young Designer Turns Antique Quilts Battlefields of the American Revolution As the first armed conflict of the American Revolution, the Battles of Lexington and Concord ignited Massachusetts and showed the potential of citizen soldiers, relying on local organizing and knowledge of their home terrain, to confront the highly trained and professional British military. Fought prìmarily on Breed’s Hill just outside Boston, the Battle of Bunker Hill was an early demonstration of American tenacity. Although the battle was a tactical loss for the Americans, heavy casualties forced the stunned British to rethink their strategy for the long war to come. Notable for the victory that followed George Washington’s risky and audacious crossing of the Delaware River from Pennsylvania into New Jersey, the Battle of Trenton highlighted Washington’s ability to see opportunity in desperate times, rally his army, and save the revolutionary cause. In New York, the Battles of Saratoga halted a determined British campaign to divide the colonies. American resolve at Freeman’s Farm and Bemis Heights drew international support that ultimately secured independence. As the last major land battle of the Revolutionary War, the Battle of Yorktown involved a weeks-long American siege of this Virginia city that prompted a British surrender, a testimony to both the strategic leadership of George Washington and the essential support of the French.Into One-of-a-Kind Jackets**Isabel Reynolds is 21 years old, and she’s already carving out a niche in the vintage fashion world. Her business, Reynolds Retails, specializes in handmade jackets crafted from antique quilts and vintage fabrics — each one unique, each one sewn entirely by hand.

Reynolds focuses on materials with history. Her denim offerings feature exclusively pre-1980 American-made Levi’s and vintage denim, while her signature quilt jackets transform forgotten textiles into wearable art. Every piece carries a “Made in the USA” tag and its own name. The “Romeo,” for instance, is fashioned from a light blue antique quilt with a pastel design. Another, built from a 1960s-era quilt, she dubbed “The Greg” — a possible nod to The Brady Bunch. The “Leaf Quilt Jacket,” made from a white quilt decorated with autumn leaves in red, yellow, and green, is priced at $285. Other jackets run around $150.Reynolds sells at the Long Beach Veterans Stadium Flea Market on third Sundays and recently set up a space at Stars Antique Mall, where she’s now in her third month as a dealer. It’s her first antique mall, and she’s already drawing attention. You can find her work on Instagram at Reynolds Retail.—About 220 words — short enough to drop right in from your phone.
